Inconvenient Truth Event

CCEP co-sponsored the three showings of the Paramount Classics film, An Inconvenient Truth, directed by Davis Guggenheim and starring Al Gore, on the weekend of September 22-24. This was the kickoff for the Allegheny College Climate Change Initiative, a year-long effort to increase public awareness and education around issues of global warming, and to promote individual and institutional efforts to reduce the human impact on climate.

CCEP student interns sold energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs in the lobby before the film and ran the Earth Café game. At the Earth Café, guests can find out how many earths would be necessary if everyone on Earth--all 9 billion people--continued their lifestyles in the year 2010. Some people used as many as six or seven (see picture). Each level of blocks represents one Earth.

Also, this summer, on July 22, CCEP hosted an event at The Movies at Meadville, coinciding with the showing of An Inconvenient Truth, which featured over a dozen local environmental groups and businesses, music, and a raffle with environmentally themed prizes. Interns also ran the Earth Café.
